We all know the traditional Christmas songs where the theme is about the peaceful holiday spirit, Santa Claus and the gifts he brings or the birth of Jesus Christ.

But not all Christmas songs are that traditional.

I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas

Written by Jon Rox and sung by Gayla Peevey in 1953.

Ok, this song is about Santa and the gifts and we all love our gifts. But a Hibbopotamus?

Another Santa Claus song but this one has a very, very dark humor.

Santa Baby

This sexy song where the singer is trying to seduce Santa was originally sung and recorded in 1953 by Eartha Kitt.

The song has since then been sung by many artists including Madonna, Shakira and Kilye Minouge.

Fairytale Of New York

This is probably the most depressing Christmas song of them all, it includes a drunk, broken heart and broken dreams.

It has been banned from many radio stations for a bad language. Yet it was voted the best Christmas song of all time three years in a row 2004,2005 and 2006.

Spaceman came traveling

By Chris De Burgh.

This is a song about the birth of Christ but in the song the angel Gabriel is a spaceman who came traveling on a spaceship to Earth to bring the message of love to the human kind.

This is a song about wanting a Christmas song that is OK to play on your podcast without being sued so the song is really a satire on the thought that everyone who’s ever downloaded a song is a pirate and should be sued. As you might see the video is made with the World of Warcraft MMORPG.
